CINECA stands as the largest public Italian supercomputing center and is the hosting entity for one of the three EuroHPC systems, Leonardo. This prominent role underscores CINECA's commitment to advancing high-performance computing (HPC) in Italy and across Europe.

The specialist support team at CINECA, comprising approximately 20 professionals, plays a pivotal role in supporting the Italian and European scientific communities. The team's primary objective is to facilitate the effective utilization of CINECA's HPC infrastructure. This involves assisting researchers in modernizing their codes and workflows to leverage the full potential of the available computational resources.

Evolving Scientific Applications

In recent years, scientific applications have transitioned from a traditional usage model focused solely on HPC cycles to more intricate workflows. These modern workflows integrate data analytics and structured computing pipelines, reflecting the increasing complexity and data-intensive nature of contemporary research.

To provide scientists with a modern and efficient computational infrastructure, it is essential to have a deep understanding of their use cases and requirements. Interaction with scientific communities is crucial in this regard. CINECA's participation in the SPECTRUM project is instrumental in facilitating this interaction, particularly in the domains of high-energy physics and radio astronomy.

SPECTRUM Project: Bridging Computation and Data Management

SPECTRUM offers the unique opportunity to CINECA to investigate use cases that highlight the seamless interaction between computation and data management, often referred to as the compute-data continuum. This collaboration with SPECTRUM partners is both exciting and challenging, as it involves designing the future HPC landscape to meet the evolving needs of European scientists.

CINECA is deeply committed to contributing to the SPECTRUM project's goals. By providing European scientists with advanced tools and HPC systems, CINECA aims to support groundbreaking research and help scientists achieve their objectives. This dedication reflects CINECA's broader mission to foster innovation and excellence in the field of supercomputing
