In SPECTRUM, CINECA contributes as HPC and Quantum Infrastructure Provider and contact to extended scientific domains ecosystems.
Cineca is the largest Italian computing centre and one of the most important worldwide. With more than nine hundred employees, it operates in the HPC, technology transfer and information technology (IT) sectors. Cineca develops advanced IT applications and services with the main goal of supporting academia, public administration, and private companies. Cineca has a proven track record of providing HPC systems at the top of the most powerful systems in the world. Cineca was selected as hosting entity of Leonardo supercomputer, ranked 4rth in the Top500 November 2022, one of the three European precursors of Exascale class systems, acquired within the EuroHPC initiative and was appointed as technical advisor of MUR in the EuroHPC governing board.
This will be key to promote the most advanced computational research in Italy and Europe, and it is seen as the starting point to establish an Italian roadmap aiming to procure and make available in the midterm a post-Exascale class system for public and private research. Cineca represents Italy in PRACE, the pan-European ESFRI e-Infrastructure for HPC, is a founding member of the industry-led group of advisors ETP4HPC, which aims to define research priorities and action plans on several technological areas. Cineca, being one of the main data management infrastructures in Italy and Europe, is an active member of EUDAT foundation and of the Big Data Value Association (BDVA).
